Particularly in participation online, people have turned to methods of encryption as a means of maintaining privacy and protection. Online shopping and banking transactions are examples of this. But even simple communication, such as email, VOIP calls, and even instant messaging have added options for utilizing encryption methods.
As privacy and security become issues of greater importance to the common person, the media increasingly incorporates the topic into their material. The are more news reports about security breaches, more websites emphasizing their own security, and more public talk about the careless practices of not using encryption methods to protect your identity online.
But there has also been entertainment focusing around the issues of cryptology as well. This recent example, from the film “National Treasure II: The Book of Secrets”, illustrates the public interest and awareness of cryptology today. Enjoy!
